These simple kits were first issued by Midori. Those kits were
packed in a small box with a cellophane window. The kit also
contained a printed background. The build model could be displayed
in the box with the window and the background. Neat idea, but I
wonder if many people actually did it. The Union company re-released the
kits in normal flat boxes with no window or background.
Allthough these kits are in 1/28 scale and wouldn't fit to good in
my 1/25 scale collection, I decided to try to get the whole set of
four kits. Just for the fun of it. The Opel and Renault kits from
Midori were not too difficult to get, but
the Stanley and Ford were a bit of a struggle. One day I found
and bought the Stanley (Union) kit and when the kit arrived I was
pleasantly surprised to find not only the Stanly kit but also the
hard to get Ford kit in the same box! Building the kits was not a
big problem.
‘Easy to assemble’
said it on the box. Well, they were easy to assemble, but it took
some time to remove at least half a ton of plastic of each kit. They
were a bit, erhm, crude is the right word I guess. And they all had
some kind of pull-back/wind-up mechanism, which I didn’t installed,
but left holes in each kit which had to be filled too. Well, here
are all four of them, in order of appearance:
1907 Stanley
1909 Opel Coupe
1911 Ford Model T
1911 Renault Two-Seater
