Hi guys,

I've been a happy and grateful user of the free FTP service for a few years now.

For the last 3-4 days I've been receiving:

530 Not logged on, free service users can logon 1000 times, plus 100 times/day, please upgrade on http://www.drivehq.com/!

From this it seems I should be able to logon 100 times per day, no matter how logons I've made in the past?

It's more than likely I've hit the 1,000 limit, but should be well clear of 100/day--and for the last few days have only logged on once per day and am still being rejected.

Help appreciated.

Cheers

Subject: Re: Hit FTP logon limit

We have recently done an internal auditing about service abuse from free service users. We have noticed that some user accounts have over 150,000 to 2,000,000 FTP logons, which is an extremely high number!

Please note: (1) The free service is designed for personal and casual use only. (2) Generally speaking, DriveHQ FTP service is designed for use by real human beings.

More than 150000 FTP logons must come from automatic devices or software (e.g. surveilance camera or key logger), which creates a huge load on our FTP servers and is considered a service abuse. Based on this, we have disabled a number of user accounts. We have also added restrictions to free service users. From now on, free service users can only logon our FTP server for:

      1000 + 100  x  "days since sign-up DriveHQ membership" times

The number should be far more than enough for regular users.

If your account is disabled and if you have a legitimate reason to logon so many times, we will consider re-enabling your account. However, you will need to pay for the service.

If your account is not disabled and if FTP logon is blocked, you will also need to pay for the service. We currently have not limited paid members. However, paid members are also subject to fair use.

Hi, thanks for clarifying the failure message. First my apologies, I wasn't aware my usage was an issue. My account has hit the FTP logon limit but not been disabled, so I guess I'm not the worst offender here ;-) I have been using DriveHQ for monitoring a webcam. I'm still surprised at how busy the software has been, I usually only run it for an hour or so a day. I will rethink my strategy. Cheers

Subject: Re:Hit logon limit, but seems wrong

I too am disabled after my first day. I was testing the FTP service and I don't think I hit the 100 for the day. I then created another account and was planning to PAY when I realized I could not even attempt to logon! Apparently you decide to BLOCK the IP address instead of the account!  So, I guess I potentially blocked anyone in this 1000+ employee company from using their FTP account (free or paid) !!!

Subject: DriveHQ has launched CameraFTP.com, a new FTP service optimized for security cam...

DriveHQ has launched www.cameraFTP.com, a new FTP service optimized for IP cameras. DriveHQ offers a complete Cloud IT Solution, which includes a state-of-the-art FTP server hosting service. Many security camera users have used our FTP service to store the recorded images offsite. Because DriveHQ.com has so many features, it might be a little hard to find the right features for security cameras.

With www.CameraFTP.com, it is much easier. You can configure your camera to upload images to ftp.cameraftp.com, (or IP Address: 66.220.9.45), and you can remotely monitor the scene or play back the old images using our CameraShow feature.

Security cameras are not secure themselves. They can be easily destroyed or tampered. By using CameraFTP service, even if an intruder destroys the security camera, he cannot delete the images stored in CameraFTP's secure data center.

If you already have a security camera (or network camera, IP camera, surveillance camera), you definitely should try our CameraFTP service. If you don't have a security camera yet, you might want to buy one now. The cost has dropped dramatically in the past few years. Now you can buy a decent quality wireless security camera for only about $100. Dependent on your image quality and upload frequency, CameraFTP service starts at only $1.5/month!

For only about $100 to a few hundred dollars, you can make your home or business much more secure. Isn't it a very good investment?
