The Friars were the first team to score in this game, when in the 2nd Evan Longoria singled and scored on a triple from Greg Zaun. A base hit from Magglio Ordonez would score Zaun for a 2-0 Point Lomas lead. In the 3rd, Point Lomas had another scoring opportunity, loading the bases with 2 outs. With Zaun at the plate, Zaun smoked a grounder to Aaron Hill, who bobbled it. Run scored and everyone was safe. Ordonez smacked another single, scoring another runner to make it 4-0 Point Lomas after 3. The Muckrakers put themselves on the board in the 5th inning when with 2 on and 2 out, Denard Span got a base hit, driving in 2 runs to cut the Friars lead to 2. But 2 runs would be as close as Madison got this game. In the 7th the Friars added 3 runs, led by a 2-run shot from Longoria. In the 8th the Friars scored 3 more, and scored another one in the 9th for good measure. Scott Downs did allow 2 Madison runs in the bottom of the 9th, but it was too little, too late. Point Lomas wins game 2 by a score of 11-4, and head home with a commanding series lead. ******************************************************************* GAME FIVE -- Muckrakers (Hernandez) at Friars (Lincecum). Playing at home for the last time this series, Point Lomas had one more chance to win the series before it moved back to Madison, where the Muckrakers would technically gain back home field advantage. In the bottom of the 3rd, Luis Castillo got a 1 out walk, moved to third on a single from Marlon Byrd, and scored on a RBI single from Adam Lind. 1-0 Point Lomas after 3. In the top of the 7th inning, with 1 out and Nick Markakis at first, Franklin Gutierrez grounded a single, putting runners at the corners. With 2 outs, pinch hitter Michael Aubrey singled, scoring Markakis to tie the game up at 1. In the bottom of the 7th, Joe Nathan came on in relief for Madison. Nathan threw a ball on a 3-2 pitch to Craig Counsell, generating the walk. Pinch hitter Carlos Delgado doubled, putting runners at 2nd & 3rd. Marlon Byrd hit a sacrifice fly to put Point Lomas up 2-1. After Adam Lind walked, Kendry Morales hit the first pitch seen over the wall. 3-run home run, and the Friars were up 5-1. Point Lomas added an insurance run in the 8th. In the top of the 9th, Andrew Bailey was pitching for the Friars with a comfortable 6-1 lead. Aaron Hill hit a fly out for out #1. Nick Markakis singled. With Brendan Ryan at bat, Bailey threw a wild pitch, advancing Markakis 90 feet. Ryan hit a dribbler, which catcher John Baker fielded poorly. Ryan was safe at first and Markakis was at 3rd. Matt Wieters grounded out to first, allowing a runner to score. 6-2 Friars with 2 outs. Pinch hitter Andruw Jones went yard, blasting a 2-run home run. 6-4 Friars. Bailey was done for the day, giving up 3 unearned runs. Trevor Hoffman came on in relief to face pinch hitter Ramon Santiago, bases empty, 2 outs and the Muckrakers down by 2. Santiago would not be the hero today, hitting a fly out to end the game. Point Lomas wins game 5 by a score of 6-4 to take the AP Conference Finals and advance to their 2nd straight CDBL World Series. FRIARS WIN 4-1. 10/24/2009, MAD09-PTL09, PETCO Park 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E LOB DP 2009 Muckrakers 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 3 4 5 0 5 0 2009 Friars 0 0 1 0 0 0 4 1 x 6 9 1 7 0 Muckrakers AB R H BI D T HR BB K
