(Baker). Fresh off their game 1 victory, the Dragons were the first team to strike in game two, when in the top of the 4th with 2 outs and the bases loaded, Endy Chavez singled, scoring 2 runners to put Half Moon Bay up 2-0. The Friars came back in the later innings. In the 7th, Kendry Morales hit a solo home run to cut the Dragons lead to 1. In the 8th, with the bases loaded and Morales once again at bat, Morales hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game up at 2. Neither team would score in the 9th, so the game would go into extra innings. Andrew Bailey was pitching for the Friars in the top of the 10th. With 1 out, Alex Rodriguez connected on a solo home run to put Half Moon Bay up 3-2. Darren O'Day would pitch the bottom of the inning with a 1-run lead, having already pitched 1 2/3 innings. First batter up, Luis Castillo, walked. Marlon Byrd popped out for out #1. Adam Lind grounded out, putting Luis Castillo into scoring position but putting 2 outs on the board. The hot bat of Kendry Morales was bypassed, walking him intentionally to bring Evan Longoria to the plate. That proved to be the smart move, as Longoria struck out to end the game. The Dragons improve to 6-0 in extra inning games this post-season, winning game 2 by a score of 3-2 to send the series to Coors Field. In the last game at Coors Field this season, the Friars were the first team to strike, when Adam Lind hit a solo home run in the 1st. In the 2nd, Evan Longoria walked, moved to 2nd on a walk to Greg Zaun, moved to third on a groundout from Magglio Ordonez and scored on a wild pitch from Brian Bannister. 2-0 Friars after 1 1/2 innings. In the bottom of the 2nd, with 2 on and 2 out, Brian Bannister singled, scoring a run. In the bottom of the 4th, with 2 on and 1 out, Bannister again singled, scoring a run to tie up the game at 2, with the pitcher accounting for both RBI. The Dragons took the lead in the 5th on a Mark Teixeira triple and Jorge Posada sacrifice fly. It became 4-2 Dragons in the 6th when Jimmy Rollins singled, moved to 2nd on a bunt single from Endy Chanvez, moved to third on a sac bunt from Bannister and scored on a base hit by Johnny Damon. The teams exchanged a run in the 7th to make it 5-3 Dragons. The score remained 5-3 Dragons heading into the top of the 9th. Darren O'Day was pitching for Half Moon Bay, just 3 outs away from giving his team a critical 3-2 series lead. First batter up, Adam LInd, popped out. Kendry Morales struck out. 2 outs. O'Day plunked Evan Longoria and gave up a single to Greg Zaun to put the go-ahead run at the plate. Raul Ibanez was the pinch hitter, and Arthur Rhodes entered the game to face him. Since joining the Friars Ibanez was reduced to a pinch hitter's role. But Ibanez would have the most clutch hit of his career, sending a 1-2 pitch deep over the right field wall. 3-run blast, and Point Lomas would jump out to a 6-5 lead. Trevor Hoffman pitched the bottom of the 9th with a 1 run lead, just 3 outs away from sending Point Lomas back home with a 3-2 series lead. First batter up, David Ross, flied out. Maicer Izturis lined out. And with 2 outs, Nick Swisher hit a fly out, ending the game. The Friars' late inning heroics prove to be the key as they win game 5 by a score of 6-5, and are a win away from winning the CDBL World Series. ******************************************************************* GAME SIX -- Dragons (Dempster) at Friars (Baker). Having successfully swept the Dragons on the road, the Friars were 1 win away from their first ever CDBL World Series championship, and they'd have a chance to do it at home ... where they have yet to win a game this series. Both starters held their own the first half of the game, throwing shutouts through 5 innings. In the top of the 6th, Alex Rodriguez walked, stole second, and scored on a base hit from Marco Ellis. Jorge Posada followed up with a double, scoring Ellis. With 0 outs, Nick Swisher grounded out, advancing Posada to 3rd. Jimmy Rollins singled, scoring Posada to put Half Moon Bay up 3-0. In the bottom of the 8th, Joe Thatcher was pitching in relief for the Dragons with a 3 run lead. Thatcher struck out Carlos Delgado and pinch hitter Mark DeRosa to put 2 quick outs on the board. Marlon Byrd singled, and Thatcher was pulled in favor of Darren O'Day. Adam Lind walked. Pinch hitter John Baker singled, scoring Byrd. Then Evan Longoria singled, scoring Lind to cut the Dragons lead to 1. The score remained 3-2 Dragons heading into the bottom of the 9th. Darren O'Day continued to pitch. The first batter up, Kosuke Fukudome, singled to put the tying run at first. Craig Counsell flied out. Delgado singled, moving Fukudome to second and putting the winning run at first. Nate Schierholtz came on as a pinch hitter, but hit a fly out for out #2. Now Marlon Byrd was at bat, with 2 outs and 2 on. The right swing could make Friars champions. But it was not to be. Byrd struck out to end the game. The Dragons win game 6 by a score of 3-2 and set up a winner-take-all game 7. This was it. 162 regular season games, several rounds of playoff games, and 6 World series contents have culminated into a single game, winner-take-all match. A 7 game CDBL World Series has not been seen since 1994. Half Moon Bay starter Zach Duke was selected by the Dragons in the 3rd round of the 2008 draft, with a career 52-34 record. On the road he would face Johan Santana, with a career record of 116-74, who was originally selected 2nd overall in the 2000 draft, and dealt to the Friars this off-season for a king's ransom. In the bottom of the 1st, Rafael Furcal walked, moved to 2nd on a balk from Zach Duke, and scored on a base hit by Raul Ibanez. 1-0 Point Lomas after 1. In the top of the 2nd, Jimmy Rollins hit a leadoff single. The next batter, Dewayne Wise, smoked a ground ball to Furcal, but Furcal couldn't handle it. Error to the shortstop, and runners were safe at first and sceond. After Jorge Posada struck out, Rajai Davis singled, scoring Rollins to tie the game up at 1. Duke laid down a bunt, which was thrown to third for the out. With 2 outs, Maicer Izturis hit a grounder to Evan Longoria, who bobbled it. Error to the third baseman, and the bases were loaded with 2 outs. Next up was Nick Swisher. Swisher swung at the first pitch seen and sent it over the wall. Grand slam home run, and the Dragons were up 5-1, 4 of those runs unearned. The Dragons added a run in the 3rd with a sacrifice fly by Wise. Santana would last just 2 innings. Nick Swisher added to the lead in the 7th with a solo home run. For the Friars, game 7 was not to be. Zach Duke pitched pretty effectively, giving up 1 earned run over 7 innings of play. In the bottom of the 9th, with Jason Frasor on the mound, Kendry Morales struck out with 2 outs and 2 on to end the season.
